headaches or heartaches: disciplining children

If we love and delight in our children, we will discipline them because we know that it will train them for the future.  Here's what the Bible says about discipline:

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12:11

My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
for the LORD reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.
Proverbs 3:11-12

Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
Proverbs 13:24

Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.
Proverbs 29:17

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die.
Proverbs 23:13

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
Proverbs 29:15

Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
Revelation 3:19

Though it may feel difficult right now, disciplining our children will be worth the effort in the end! As the Lord wills, one day- if not today- we will see the fruit of discipline in their lives.
